Gore said during a CNN interview:

“Talk about somebody that shouldn't be talking about making the country less safe, invading a country that did not attack us and posed no serious threat to us at all,” Gore said of Cheney.

Iraq was no serious threat to us at all? What about Bill Clinton's speech regarding bombing Iraq in December of 1998? (emphasis mine):

Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors.

Their purpose is to protect the national interest of the United States, and indeed the interests of people throughout the Middle East and around the world.

Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons.

I want to explain why I have decided, with the unanimous recommendation of my national security team, to use force in Iraq; why we have acted now; and what we aim to accomplish.

The international community had little doubt then, and I have no doubt today, that left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will use these terrible weapons again.

Saddam's deception has defeated their effectiveness. Instead of the inspectors disarming Saddam, Saddam has disarmed the inspectors.

This situation presents a clear and present danger to the stability of the Persian Gulf and the safety of people everywhere.

And so we had to act and act now.

Let me explain why.

First, without a strong inspection system, Iraq would be free to retain and begin to rebuild its chemical, biological and nuclear weapons programs in months, not years.

Second, if Saddam can crippled the weapons inspection system and get away with it, he would conclude that the international community -- led by the United States -- has simply lost its will. He will surmise that he has free rein to rebuild his arsenal of destruction, and someday -- make no mistake -- he will use it again as he has in the past.

If we had delayed for even a matter of days from Chairman Butler's report, we would have given Saddam more time to disperse his forces and protect his weapons.

The hard fact is that so long as Saddam remains in power, he threatens the well-being of his people, the peace of his region, the security of the world.

And mark my words, he will develop weapons of mass destruction. He will deploy them, and he will use them.

Dowd covers for Obama by attacking Cheney

Maureen Dowd's latest column attacks Cheney because Cheney dares to have the audacity to defend his actions while Vice-President. (hat tip Hot Air)

After a distracting and pointless comparison to Carter, Gore vs. a sitting president, we finally get to the crux of her unhinged Cheney harangue:

Well, then you’d have to say that, in effect, we’re prepared to sacrifice American lives rather than run an intelligent interrogation program that would provide us the information we need to protect America,” Doomsday Dick said.

Cheney has replaced Sarah Palin as Rogue Diva.

At first glance it appears that in Dowd's mind, Cheney is a drama queen because he is speaking his mind and not giving Obama the benefit of the doubt to the commander-in-chief. Just like Republicans said Gore and Carter shouldn't have done. Cheney's comments are from personal knowledge from being directly involved with the policy at hand along with being attacked now over that policy. Carter and Gore had no involvement or decision in the policies they criticized.

What was the point in bring it up? Dowd's real purpose is to begin the spin to counter the Bush-Cheney success:

No matter if or when terrorists attack here — and they’re on their own timetable, not a partisan red/blue state timetable — Cheney will be deemed the primary one who made America more vulnerable."

The fact is that in the 88 months after 9/11/2001 during Bush-Cheney, the US wasn't attacked. That didn't just somehow happen. Cheney was a part of that success and has said that the interrogation techniques played a role.

Dowd's push back is that Cheney, who is a private citizen, has a greater influence on the security of the US than the current President.

The majority party owns the committee chairmanships; it controls what bills come to a vote; and it is under no obligation to consider the ideas of the beleaguered minority"

More revealing Frank admits, "Forgotten too is the significant progress that was made after the 2006 elections, when the Republicans in Congress were repudiated by American voters. Ironically, this is the period in which I and my Democratic colleagues actually did possess the magical power needed to make real change in Washington -- we became the majority party. "

That magical power and SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS started in January of 2007, under the democrats, so they were in charge when "the economy had been shrinking for nearly a year by then", and not the Republicans.

And Obama voted for the 700 billion dollar bailout in the fall of 2008. Obama was an active participant in creating the so called "Bush deficit" he whines about inheriting.

In arguing that Rights come with a responsibility, the President made a bizarre comparison. Clinton claimed the need for MORE gun control was comparable to not removing Metal Detectors and X-ray machines from airports because of an expanding threat from terrorists (emphasis mine):

Two years prior to the 9/11 attacks, Clinton's 'hypothetical' is that "Terrorist Groups Expanding Operations In The United States" WHICH THEY WERE and links this threat to air travel, WHICH IT WAS.

Clinton's political grandstanding on the unfounded hysterical fears of rampant unchecked gun violence handicapped him from failing to prevent the actual credible real-life threat that he himself put into words. The fact is that metal detectors were in place in September of 2001 and guns were NOT used in the hijackings, nor had any part in the attacks. Is this the reason why Clinton and his administration failed to 'connect the dots'?

Senator John McCain has one chance left at the upcoming debate but since his last 2 debate performances were horrible, it's doubtful. McCain didn't expose Obama's failure and associates, nor challenge Obama's claims. The election is completely out of any one's hands except McCain's. McCain needs to stop with the 'friends', 'we all know that', 'they know me', etc., and expose the side of Obama that the mainstream press refuses to report about.

Obama Missed Key Vote Due to Family

Sally Quinn said of the Republican VP candidate, "Is she prepared for the all-consuming nature of the job? She is the mother of five children, one of them a four-month-old with Down Syndrome. Her first priority has to be her children. When the phone rings at three in the morning and one of her children is really sick what choice will she make?"

It's curious that Quinn deems important the reaction of the Republican VICE-presidential candidate but not the Democratic PRESIDENTIAL candidate. Since this question is apparently legitimate, wouldn't it be more reasonable to ask, "What would President Barack Obama do when the phone rings at three in the morning and one of his children is really sick?" How would Obama react, what choice would he make, and what does his past record indicate?

In December 1999, State Senator Obama missed a key vote for exactly the reason Quinn cited above and the Illinois governor's reaction demonstrates how important Obama's presence was needed for the vote on the Safe Neighborhoods Act:

U.S. soldiers in the northern Iraqi desert dug up more than 1,000 aging rockets and missiles wrapped in plastic, some of which were buried as recently as two weeks ago, Army officials said Tuesday.

Commanders in the 101st Airborne Division said an Iraqi tipped them off to the buried weapons, perhaps an indication that residents in this largely Sunni Arab region about 150 miles north of Baghdad are beginning to warm up to coalition forces.

"The tide is turning," said 2nd Lt. Patrick Vardaro, 23, of Norwood, Mass., a platoon leader in the division's 187th Infantry Regiment. "It's better to work with Americans than against us."

Zarqawi and al qaeda, losers!

The Iraqi insurgency has mainly consisted of the following groups:

1. Foreign Jihadists headed by Zarqawi(al qaeda in Iraq).
2. Saddam Hussein loyalists.
3. Former Baath party members / Sunnis.
4. Shia religious extremist, like Sadr.

Previously the Shia (#4) had joined the political process and now the Baathists/Sunnis (#3) have decided to give the political process a chance by participating in the December 15th election.

The participation by the Baathists/Sunnis is significant because it shows that the final 20% of Iraq's population have finally come to terms with losing the power they once had, and they have some faith that the Shia and Kurds won't take revenge against them. While the vast majority of the Baathists/Sunnis
weren't allied with Zarqawi, they had no incentive to turn him in to Coalition Forces. Now as participants in the new Iraq, they do.

Which means Zarqawi and al qaeda have officially lost in Iraq. This doesn't mean the killing is finished, but that the final outcome is inevitable. Iraq will not be another Taliban Afghanistan. Which isn't a surprise considering Zarqawi was looking for greener pastures in Europe to terrorize 4 months ago.

The smartest strategy for Zarqawi now would be to bide his time. Even with the unity of the December 15th elections, there are a lot of differences between the various factions in Iraq. Exploiting those difference could gain some traction and attention. But Zarqawi has shown himself to be just a psychotic serial killer. Expect an orgy of killing as his farewell gift. Unless someone gets to him first.

If the US leaves Iraq now, Al Qaeda wins. Period!

Clinton appeared in front of the whole world threatening and promising revenge , but these threats were merely a preparation for withdrawal. You have been disgraced by Allah and you withdrew; the extent of your impotence and weaknesses became very clear. Retired Army Major General James "Spider" Marks is a CNN military analyst and was a senior intelligence officer during the 2003 Iraq war. General Marks was involved with the initial search for WMD in Iraq.

On Sunday November 13,2005, around 6:30pm CST, CNN Live Sunday anchor Carol Lin interviewed General Marks regarding WMD in Iraq. The General stated that the Defense Intelligence Agency had a list of 900+ WMD sites in Iraq that he started out with and that the sites weren't ranked in order of importance. General Marks stated that Iraq "had the mechanisms" for producing WMD and that precursors and yellowcake were found in Iraq.

When Anchor Carol Lin asked whether Iraq "had the stuff" General Marks responded "absolutely".
